As a working parent building my new business my working hours are aligned to maintaining my 'day job' as well as looking after my children. So if you cannot see a time which initially works for you, please do still contact me to see if I can accommodate your needs.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Yes! in fact, it's a great way for you to learn about exercise and fitness, as you'll have someone knowledgeable teaching you right from the start!
Firstly, congratulations on taking the first step and deciding you want to make a positive change. Do not underestimate what a big deal that actually is. The next step is to drop me a line, a text or give me a call and we can set up a mutually convenient time to meet and have an initial chat. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, for you to see if you like me and for me to understand your goals and aspirations.
This is very informal but completely confidential discussion and if afterwards you decide you do not want to proceed, then that is absolutely fine. If however, you are keen to proceed I will then issue you with a PARQ Form and Consent Form for completion. The first is a basic Health questionnaire which is used to make sure you are able to participate in exercise. The second confirms you acknowledge the risks associated with exercise but are willing to enter into this. Don't worry I will talk you through everything in advance and answer any questions you may have.
The next step is to agree dates and times and to get your fitness journey started, of which I hope to be a part of.
There are many benefits to exercise outdoors and I have listed a few key ones here.
(1) Increased levels of Serotonin.
We all know that exercising alone provides you with several benefits for your physical and mental health but when you combine this with working outside you exponentially increase these benefits. For example, it puts you in direct contact with sunlight with many studies showing a relationship between sunlight and increased levels of serotonin, which is the bodies natural mood stabiliser. Sunlight exposure also helps increase our levels of Vitamin D, which again has been proven to enhance our moods.
(2) Challenging our bodies
Working outside can challenge our bodies in ways which we cannot replicate in a gym. We are exposed to the elements, coping with what can only be described as the fabulous British weather. Even slight differences in temperature both hot and cold or wind can increase the level of difficulty of our workouts. This coupled with the changing environment around us i.e. uneven surfaces, inclines, obstacles all require us to adapt as we workout, increasing the effort required.
(3) Stress Reliever
Being close to nature can reduce our stress levels. Many studies have shown that we often feel calmer when outside, reducing Cortisol, the chemical found in our body which causes stress. By relieving / reducing our stress levels , we can also potentially have a positive impact on our blood pressure.
Not if you don't want to! An important goal for me is that you're comfortable. That means if you prefer to workout outside or from the comfort of your home that is absolutely fine and I can incorporate exercises into your plan which will enable you to replicate these when we are not working out together.
It all depends on you! We'll go at your pace to reach your goals. How fast we do that depends on the time and effort you put in!
In the main this will be in my garden where I have created my own outdoor training environment and where I have a range of equipment to help support us reach your goals. However, if for any reason you are unable to come to my house then we can of course discuss alternative options.
Generally each session will last approximately 1 hour and will include a warm up and cool down.
Something comfortable. It is really important that you feel comfortable in what you are wearing and can also move freely. Given that we will be training in all weathers, I would recommend the following:-
